Alert: With the release of the 9 October 2006
Quote tool, when an active-active (Clustered) system is quoted and SyncMirror
is selected Stretch MetroCluster will automatically be defaulted. If this is not desirable the Stretch
MetroCluster box can be unselected.
Because of this change existing quotes (Pre-October release) that are
edited by the October Quote Tool will cause active-active configurations with
SyncMirror to have Stretch MetroCluster added to the quote. Simply unselect the Stretch MetroCluster box
to remove it from the edited quote. For
additional quoting information please refer to the QTB listed in the Additional
Information section.

Summary
This
product bulletin introduces the Brocade 200e switch for Fabric MetroCluster,
which can be ordered with 8 or 16 ports.
With the September Quote tool, Fabric MetroClusters can now be ordered
with 8 port 200e switches along with the currently supported 16 port 200e
switches and for distances exceeding 10kms.
See the “What’s New” section below for complete details of changes in
the September Quote Tool involving MetroCluster
Please
note when a Fabric MetroCluster is ordered, it includes the required Brocade
200e switches in the order. You do not
need to separately add these switches to the quote.
In
addition to the Fabric MetroCluster 200e switch support, Stretch MetroCluster
configurations can now be deployed for up to 500m using OM3 Cables for cabling
Disk Shelves.
2.
What's New?
A.
New Feature and Configuration Support
The
Brocade 200E is slightly smaller than the previous 3250 and 3850, so it
requires only a single unit of rack space and extends only halfway into the
rack. Brocade 200E switches are preconfigured with two fans and one power
supply. The fans and power supply are not hot-swappable. The only
field-replaceable unit (FRU) for the Brocade 200E switches is the Small
Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP).
Brocade
200E Product Data Sheet
The Brocade 200E switches run 5.1
firmware. Initial shipments will use firmware 5.1.0, but you should always
check the NOW™ (NetApp on the Web) MetroCluster compatibility matrix to get the
latest information on the correct firmware version for MetroCluster.
B. Brocade 200e 8-port support added.
8-port and 16-port Brocade 200e switches are now supported for MetroCluster.
C. Long Distance software for distances
greater than 10Km output by Quote Tool when a distance greater than 10Km is
selected.
D. Clarifying messages and links added
to the Quote Tool UI for cable descriptions and ordering. For complete details
regarding messages, link to QTB referenced in “Additional Information” section.

B. Ordering
The first step in quoting
a MetroCluster is to determine the approximate distance that will exist between
the nodes. The distance should fit into one of the following categories. You then start with a Cluster Platform, choose the appropriate
MetroCluster type, Select the distance category (for Fabric MetroClusters), add
disk shelves both for the primary and secondary nodes and finally verify the
switches included. For detailed ordering
instructions please refer to the Quote Tool Bulletin.
